Welcome to the exhibition ‘Friendly Little Creatures’ in Varna!
Curators: Albena Baeva and Rene Beekman
Artists: Albena Baeva, Rene Beekman, Nicoleta Boncheva, Petya Boyukova, Stefan Donchev and Ivan Shopov.
The exhibition will be opened with a musical performance by Ivan Shopov (Balkansky). At the opening of the exhibition, the audience can pet grass that purrs, get stung while trying to make the right choice with the aid of Helpy, or try to understand the problems that mobile applications have to live with and why they refuse to function “normally”. They can hear a robot in love, get hit by a stubborn car, or witness a machine attack a wall.
Friendly little creatures is seven new interactive sculptures created by the artists of Reaktiv studio for interactive design. These little creatures fit in the trunk of a car and they really like to travel. They dream of traveling around the world and to learn more about different cities, sights and people.
In a world full of smartphones, smart television sets, and smart refrigerators that tell us when we’re running out of milk, the exhibition Friendly little creatures shows a series of smart art objects.
American philosopher Graham Harman has argued that there is no reason to view the world only from the point of view of humans. Every object around us understands the world from their own perspective and point of view. And that same world looks fundamentally different for each object.
The exhibition shows works in which artists have tried to get away from our usual anthropocentric view, to take the sides of small creatures that we share this world with and to look at things from their perspective.
Friendly little creatures is a project by artists from the team of Reaktiv, a boutique studio that creates commercial interactive projects for museums, theater and even advertisement.
The works they have created for this exhibition confront us with our world from an alien point of view, namely that of smart objects around us.
There is so much to tell about these unique creatures. On 7 June from 7.30pm a meeting and conversation with the curators of the exhibition Albena Baeva and Rene Beekman will be held under the title The secret life of objects,. They will talk about topics related to exhibition and about the unique ideas behind the works. Also, they will share their thoughts and draw connections between the exhibition Friendly little creatures, different trends in contemporary philosophy and art.
Over the past three years, the team of Reaktiv been created many successful installation for festivals, museums, exhibitions, advertising and theater. The projects by Reaktiv combine the varied backgrounds of the artists in the team. Outside of these commercial projects, each of the artists has their own artistic practise and career.
Friendly little creatures is a project by the Foundation for Entrepreneurship, Culture and Education, together with the Reaktiv studio for interactive advertisement. The project has been realised with financial support from the Sofia Municipality’s Cultural programme for 2016, ETHNO wines, gallery Credo Bonum and gallery Contemporary space.
