5th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Space
21st December 2017 – 21st January 2018

A major token of today is the oversaturation with information, views and opinions.  A time when a message travels quickly, however, there arises the question: does its sense reach the ultimate goal?
The text as a medium is a powerful weapon often used by artists to convey the real meaning of their messages.
In art that is based on the use of declarative text, the principle way of communication is the text, the latter being the main part of the work. It does not serve the aesthetics of the work but it only enhances its message.
Historically, the use of text introduces a new way of thinking into artistic practices. As early as the late 1920s, René Magritte first used text as a statement in his work Ceci n’est pas une pipe (This is not a pipe).  As a movement, text-based art occurs in the 1960s, as its major representatives being the artists Jasper Johns, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein and others.
Nowadays, Tracey Emin, for instance, uses text as a means of direct commitment, provoking an immediate response in the viewer, while Jean-Michel Basquiat, who began as a graffiti artist, used text as a “socio-political artistic mechanism”.
The purpose of the exhibition is to shorten the distance between artists and audience and to enable authors to convey their messages as clearly as possible.
