In his works Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto examines the relationships between himself and people who are in a situation of manipulated reality.
The unusual and dark worlds that he depicts in graphics, drawings, objects and collages are the fruit of both his memories and creative inventions.
Many of his works reveal his interest in various social problems. The new world order, the role of modern icons in society and the attitude towards animals are just some of the themes that are repeatedly treated in his works. Switching from religion through politics to everyday absurd situations, the author is also interested in more common emotional and mental states such as narcissism, longing for love and beauty. The artist works using already existing visual material, which he enriches by adding his own treatments of narrative character. He tells his stories in a new way by focusing on some specific aspects of the plot and thus re-describing his experiences, but this time as a spectator.
The works included in the exhibition have been created over the last three years and have been made only within the periods of Mercury Retrograde. Frequently, the contradictory information released in the media about the influence of the “phenomenon” and the interference of that period even in political talking is the thing that draws the attention of the artist.
In the current exhibition, apocryphal saints and Eastern fatalism, combined with existential European sorrow, have been united in a series of drawings, graphics, plastic art and collages. Through these, Kaloyan Iliev reminds that no matter how rich and famous someone can be, he is still mortal.
